4MB Class Party
Dear Parents,
We will be having our class party on Monday 10 December. We had a class discussion as to what food items they would like to bring. All students should have written their suggested food item in their diaries. I have attached the list for your reference as well. If you are not able to bring in the item next to your child's name, that is fine and let me know what you would like to bring instead.
It would be greatly appreciated if I can have two parent helpers who will be able to assist in setting up our class food items prior to lunch (from 12pm). If you are able to help out, please email the school.

Photos of our Lemonade Stand
Dear Parents,
Our Lemonade Stand was a success this week! Throughout this term, the students worked collaboratively to plan, budget and create a lemonade stand from scratch. We definitely have been stretching our mathematical thinking creating this fun event.
You will see some photos of the students using their mathematical thinking to create this lemonade stand. These are the mathematical concepts we needed to use:
Our Lemonade Stand was a success this week! Throughout this term, the students worked collaboratively to plan, budget and create a lemonade stand from scratch. We definitely have been stretching our mathematical thinking creating this fun event.
You will see some photos of the students using their mathematical thinking to create this lemonade stand. These are the mathematical concepts we needed to use:
- We had to work out the area of the handball court to determine how many tables can fit there.
- We had to work out the perimeter of the paper to determine how big to make our signs.
- We had to work out how many millilitres and litres cups and jugs hold to determine how much liquid can fit in these containers.
- We had to use multiplication of whole numbers and fractions to determine how much supplies we needed to purchase if doubling or tripling the recipe.
- We had to work out the cost of all the materials we need to buy to determine the cost of each drink.

Last chance to order books through Scholastic is Monday 26 November and last chance to borrow before the end of term is week 7.
Library books will need to be returned the following week, at the latest by Thursday 6 December 2018.

Year 3 and 4 Lemonade Stand
Mathematics Comes to Life
Students are especially motivated by Mathematics that connects with the world around them. This term, Year 3 and 4 have been exploring the skills involved in running a lemonade stand. This has been a fun way to explore a range of ideas related to measurement, number sense and money.
To make their learning even more exciting, they will be running their own drink stall next Monday, 26 November at recess. Students will be able to purchase lemonade, raspberry fizz or banana smoothie, made by the students, for $1.50.
We hope many of our students will support this authentic learning project by purchasing a cup from one of the stalls.
Year 4 are still looking for some parent helpers on this day from 9:30 am to approximately 11:30. If you are able to help out in anyways, please email the school.

Science - Material World
Dear 4MB Parents,
The class is working on a project at the moment where each student has to reinvent a product by changing its material to improve the use of this particular product. We have some very fascinating ideas in the classroom!
This project will be completed in class next week. Some students have said that they have some of the materials they need for this product at home, which they will bring in. Most of the materials will be purchased by myself. The students have compiled a list for me to gather before they start making their product next week. The students are designing their product, making their product, testing their product and putting their product on the market to sell to 4MB students.
We will post some pictures of their product up on the BLOG so stay tuned.
We also had an exciting incursion today from Commonwealth Bank. They participated in a Smart Start program learning about the importance of saving money. Here are some pictures of today's event.

Music - Instrumental Program 2019
All students in Years 3, 4 and 5 who do not currently play a musical instrument are warmly invited to consider taking up a musical instrument in 2019. Playing a musical instrument offers many benefits to children and we offer a range of exciting musical opportunities at St Luke's, Bayview. For 2019, we are offering FREE hire of brass instruments.
